The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has said that Fazlur Rehman was taken into confidence while taking the decision to resign from the assemblies from the platform of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM).
Islamabad, Sep 23 : The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has said that Fazlur Rehman was taken into confidence while taking the decision to resign from the assemblies from the platform of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM).
Fazlur Rehman had expressed his support for resignations at the All Parties Conference held in London, said PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal.
"He has not opposed the resignations but only complained that he was not informed in advance about the date of resignations and the communication gap," Ahsan added.
He said that those who would not resign from the assemblies would be considered direct or indirect companions of General Pervez Musharraf.
"All those parties that support Musharraf directly or indirectly will stay in the assemblies to help him get another unconstitutional term of the President while all those supporting the rule of law and genuine democracy will come out of the assemblies to protest against the flagrant violation of the Constitution and the democratic norms," Ahsan said.
Ahsan pointed out that Fazlur Rehman from Jeddah had supported the decision of resignations, and he only complained about the date.
He said September 29, 2007 would be a defining moment in the country's political history as forces of democracy and dictatorship would be exposed.
"There is no chance of martial law because there is a military government for the last eight years and there cannot be any martial law against the military government," The News quoted Ahsan, as saying.
To a question, he said the ARD had become defunct after the PPP meetings and talks with Musharraf.
Ahsan warned that any attempt to impose the martial law will lead to a direct clash between the army and civilians.
"Those threatening martial law should know that if martial law is imposed, it will spark a direct clash between the army and the nation. We hope the army will not pay heed to the conspiracy of a few generals," he said.
