Young girls belonging to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are reportedly being trafficked to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Gulf countries, and are being forced into prostitution, Ansar Burney of the Ansar Burney Trust has claimed.
Lahore, Sep 22 : Young girls belonging to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are reportedly being trafficked to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Gulf countries, and are being forced into prostitution, Ansar Burney of the Ansar Burney Trust has claimed.
Burney said that girls belonging to the economically deprived sections of the society are being lured by false promises of jobs as maids, secretaries and housekeepers, but find themselves forced into the flesh trade.
When these girls reach Gulf countries, their passports are taken away and they are locked into private prisons, he added.
A few months back, one such case came to light, when a Pakistani girl named Aina Malik died in Dubai due to an accidental fire in her flat. She was locked up with another girl named Tahira, by their 'owners'. After seeing the fire, neighbours managed to break the door downand save Tahira's life, but found Aina dead.
"She was brought to Dubai nearly two years ago when she was 15 and was forced into prostitution, her passport was taken away, she was locked in a flat against her will and she had no contact with her family," The Nation quoted Burney, as saying.
Ultimately, according to Burney, most of them give up their struggle and join the flesh trade permanently.
