APDM representatives to resign enmasse from assemblies to protest Musharrafs re-election

Representatives of the opposition All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would resign enmasse from the assemblies on September 29 to protest against President General Pervez Musharrafs re-election, said Raja Zafarul Haq, the convenor of the APDM Joint Action Committee.

Islamabad, Sep 22 : Representatives of the opposition All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would resign enmasse from the assemblies on September 29 to protest against President General Pervez Musharraf's re-election, said Raja Zafarul Haq, the convenor of the APDM Joint Action Committee.

In an emergency meeting the APDM has also decided to stage nationwide demonstrations from September 30.

Haq said the legislators would hand in resignations to their respective speakers on September 26.

He said that the APDM would launch protests against the recent changes in presidential election rules.

The APDM also denounced "threats" of martial law and emergency in case the Supreme Court blocked Musharraf's re-election.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said that the APDM had decided to resign from the assemblies without consulting him.

Rehman said that he was surprised to know that the APDM had decided to resign from the assemblies in his absence.

"If the APDM has decided to resign from the assemblies, then the APDM should be questioned on the details," the Daily Times quoted Rehman, as saying.
