A school in Hartford, UK, has set a record of sorts by having 20 sets of twins on its roll.
London, Sept 19 : A school in Hartford, UK, has set a record of sorts by having 20 sets of twins on its roll.
And the Grange School, which achieved that distinction when four new pairs enrolled this month, says it has so much experience teaching twins that it now specialises in looking after them.
Having 20 pairs of twins means that one in 28 students of the 1,140-strong school is a twin.
Stephen Bennett, the headmaster, said that kids feel more comfortable at the school because staff take care to treat pupils as individuals, and when necessary, separate brothers and sisters if they felt it would help siblings develop.
"Some twins, especially when starting school, seem to flourish better with the close support of their brother or sister. Others are keen to stop being one of a pair as soon as possible. Just because twins start off together, doesn't mean they remain that way," the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
"The golden rule, of course, is to treat them as the individuals they are. Forget they are twins, even if they look alike."
However, he did admit that there were times when twins get mixed up.
"Form teachers very rarely get the twins mixed up, but it certainly can happen," he said.
"We have one pair of twins who are so alike that even their brother sometimes gets them mixed up."
Fees start at 6,060 pounds a year at the school but there is a 10 per cent discount for siblings.
