Pakistans proximity to war-torn Afghanistan is affecting its ability to project itself as one of the best countries for natural and religious tourism, said Pakistan Muslim League Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Sayed.
Islamabad, Sept.19 : Pakistan's proximity to war-torn Afghanistan is affecting its ability to project itself as one of the best countries for natural and religious tourism, said Pakistan Muslim League Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Sayed.
Talking to a delegation of British tourists here, Mushahid admitted that Pakistan has been facing an image problem, but still a large number of tourists were coming to Pakistan.
Welcoming the tourists, mostly retired persons, led by Bruce Wannell, Mushahid explained in detail about Pakistan's internal and external situation.
The PML leader said it is the election year in Pakistan and major issues are being discussed and decided in the courts as there is rule of law in the country.
He especially referred to the decision of President Pervez Musharraf to step down as the Army chief after being re-elected and before taking oath for second term.
Mushahid said the PML and its allied parties have the required strength to re-elect the president from the present assemblies.
Referring to the political and other challenges being faced by the present government, he hoped that the government would come through these challenges.
He said there will be a peaceful and democratic transition in the country.
Mushahid said Pakistan is the freest Muslim democratic country and it has vibrant and open society.
Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed said it was made complicated due to negligence of the West after winning the war against the Soviet invasion in 1979.
The members of the British tourist delegation, most of them senior members, appreciated the atmosphere and hospitality of the people of Pakistan.
They said despite travel advisory they have travelled to the northern parts of Pakistan and enjoyed the natural beauty and grandeur of the areas.
