Rejecting Pakistan President General Pervez Musharrafs counsel Sharifuddin Pirzadas statement before the Supreme Court that if re-elected for the next term his client (Musharraf) would doff his uniform, Opposition parties in the country have declared that Musharraf is unacceptable even without his uniform.
Peshawar, Sep 19 : Rejecting Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's counsel Sharifuddin Pirzada's statement before the Supreme Court that if re-elected for the next term his client (Musharraf) would doff his uniform, Opposition parties in the country have declared that Musharraf is unacceptable even without his uniform.
Coming down heavily on Musharraf, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed said the alliance would not accept him even if he shed his uniform.
"We will not be deceived by the theory that President Musharraf will doff uniform after elections, as he has already betrayed the nation on the uniform issue," said Qazi.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Central Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said that Pirzada's statement was "illogical, comical and unconstitutional".
Ahsan said that the 17th Amendment allowed Musharraf to remain president only for one term.
Paksitan People's Party (PPP) Information Secretary Sherry Rehman said that his party would not vote for Musharraf in uniform or civvies.
Commenting on Musharraf's re-election bid, Qazi said, "All options will be used from the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) platform to prevent Musharraf's re-election from the present assemblies."
Qazi reiterated that the APDM component parties would resign from assemblies on the day the election commission accepts Musharraf's nomination papers.
Holding Musharraf regime responsible for the May 12 violence in Karachi and the recent killings of students and lawyers, he said that the President was equally involved with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the killings.
"Musharraf brought a bad name to Islam and Pakistan by killing innocent countrymen in the so-called war on terror," the Daily Times quoted Qazi, as saying.
"The US is the world's top terrorist, which has launched a crusade against the Muslim world," he added.
