Former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz Sharif, is a hot candidate for Prime Minister, and termed Sehba Musharraf, wife of President Pervez Musharraf, as an undemocratic candidate.
Lahore, Sep 18 : Former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz Sharif, is a "hot candidate" for Prime Minister, and termed Sehba Musharraf, wife of President Pervez Musharraf, as an "undemocratic" candidate.
Shahbaz added that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto also has a chance to become the future leader.
"Kulsoom is a hot candidate. People of Pakistan have demanded that one of the family members should return," he told a leading Indian daily.
Shabaz's projection of his sister-in-law as a future elected leader of Pakistan follows Musharraf's decision to deport Nawaz Sharif to Jeddah.
Commenting on Bhutto and Sehba as for future candidate for Prime Minister, Shahbaz said that Bhutto has been her party's chairwoman for ages and besides she is a life chairwoman.
"Now what is new is that Musharraf might field his wife as a covering candidate. That's autocratic, that's what military dictators do. It's like Marcos and Imelda Marcos. That is a perfect comparison," Shahbaz said.
"Musharraf is a dictator. How can you compare his decision to launch his wife with anything to do with democracy?" he added.
Asked if foreign dignitaries had colluded in his brother's expulsion, Shabaz said, "I deeply resent involvement of any country in Pakistan's internal affairs, be it the US or any other country. It's in the papers that US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher and Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte were there in Islamabad on the day Nawaz was deported."
Shahbaz confirmed that he had rejected an earlier offer from Musharraf to make him the Prime Minister, and said that he had no plans to work with the General.
Commenting on Bhutto-Musharraf meeting in Abu Dhabi, he said, "It was a very unfortunate story."
