A petition was filed today in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the deportation of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia.
Islamabad, Sept 11 : A petition was filed today in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the deportation of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia.
The petition challenging Sharif's deportation was filed by Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Khwaja Asif and cousin son of Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz in the Supreme Court.
Sharif, who was sent to an 'exile' in 2000, was deported back to Saudi Arabia within hours after he landed in Islamabad on Monday. His right to return to his home was upheld by the Supreme Court, earlier.
Meanwhile, President Pervez Musharraf said that action against the leader was taken to maintain law and order in the country, and it was completely in accordance to the law of the land.
Musharraf also cautioned against people taking 'law into their hands' as the country witnessed large-scale detention of political activists and leaders.
Expressing satisfaction over the situation being in control, Musharraf discussed issues pertaining to Sharif's deportation with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz
Both Musharraf and Aziz said that the government did not hinder Sharif's return to Pakistan, as the latter's passport was stamped, and the government of Punjab arrested the leader under charges levied against him, Daily Times reported, quoting sources present in the meeting.
