Islamabad, Oct 8 : At least fifty soldiers of Pakistan Army have gone missing after gunbattles with pro Taliban militants in a tribal area in Waziristan, bordering Afghanistan.
"The soldiers have been out of radio contact since Monday morning," a spokesman of the Pakistan army said, adding that 80 people, including 60 militants and 20 soldiers died in clashes in the Mir Ali area in the weekend.
Troops backed by gunship helicopters launched an assault against militant bases and hideouts in retaliation for attacks on military convoys overnight on Friday, sparking hours of intense battles, The News reported.
Insurgents are already holding around 200 soldiers captive in Pashtun tribal belt in South Waziristan belt.
