Islamabad, Oct 7 : At least 26 people were killed, including six soldiers of Pakistan army, in a large scale operation launched by security forces in North Waziristan tribal region to retaliate attacks by the militants.
Six security men died and six others were wounded in the battle on Sunday morning, The News quoted army spokesman, Major General Waheed Arshad, as saying.
"The raid was launched today after militants ambushed our forces on Saturday evening. We have reports that 20 militants were killed and 15 others were wounded," Major General Arshad said.
The Miranshah-Bannu road has been closed for the traffic and the entire area has been cordoned off, as the operation continues.
Security forces also conducted raids in Miranshah Bazaar after there were reports that militants were hiding in the area.
