Islamabad, Oct 5 : President Pervez Musharraf has said that Pakistan is fully capable of tackling all challenges it faced and advised the pessimists not to cause despondency by creating a "doomsday scenario" every now and then.
Addressing the second Erra Annual Review Conference here at the Convention Centre, Musharraf said the nation has faced several challenges in the past with success, including the devastating earthquake of Oct 8, 2005 that killed thousands and rendered millions homeless.
"We stood by the motto of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah - Unity, Faith and Discipline and proved we can cope with these challenges and convert these into opportunities," he said.
"The pessimists need to change," Musharraf said while mentioning the doomsday scenario that they created in the wake of the country's worst natural calamity and made predictions of waves of death that never came because of better handling of the crisis.
He said that it's unfortunate that same pessimists are today creating pessimism, cynicism and despondency in the country while doing nothing to motivate.
Musharraf said the Pakistani nation has the potential and can perform but only needs the will to do so.
