Lahore, Oct 5: A division bench of the Lahore High Court has refused to entertain an Intra Court Appeal (ICA) by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) against the order of Justice Syed Hamid Ali Shah, declaring Indian sugar fit for human consumption.
Division bench head Justice Muzammal Khan said that it would not be appropriate to entertain the petition because he had remained associated with the PSMA as their adviser.
Filing the appeal, the PSMA involved as respondents the Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Customs Collectorate at the Lahore Dry Port and the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court had ordered the release of imported Indian sugar, declaring it non-injurious for human consumption, the Dawn reported.
The Indian sugar is stored at the railways godown, as the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) laboratories are checking on its quality.
