Saudi King Abdullah has accused Britain of failing to act on information passed to it by Riyadh which might have averted the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005.

London, Oct.30 : Saudi King Abdullah has accused Britain of failing to act on information passed to it by Riyadh which might have averted the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005.

In an interview ahead of his state visit to the UK, King Abdullah said the fight against terrorism needed much more effort by countries such as Britain.

"We have sent information to Great Britain before the terrorist attacks in Britain, but unfortunately no action was taken. And it may have been able to maybe avert the tragedy," he told the BBC, speaking through an interpreter.

King Abdullah is expected to arrive in Britain today for a state visit already mired in controversy.

Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat acting leader Vince Cable has announced that he would be boycotting the visit in protest at the corruption scandal over the infamous Al Yamamah arms deal.

A mass demonstration is planned outside the Saudi embassy in London later in the week in protest at Riyadh's human rights record, The Sun reports.

The Tories have branded Cable's boycott as "juvenile gesture politics".
