United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today thanked the international community for paying collective homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
New York, Oct 2 : United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today thanked the international community for paying collective homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Expressing the gratitude of over a billion people of India to the Untied Nation General Assembly, Sonia said that the war, conflict, bloodshed have long been in the human psyche and the only answer to them lies in Gandhian philosophy.
"We ourselves become the change we seek," she said on the occasion of the Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, which has been declared by the UN as 'International Day of Non-Violence'.
In a tribute of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of brotherhood and peace, the United Nations General Assembly had in June declared Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary as the International Day of Non-Violence and urged member states to observe it each year in an appropriate manner.
Sonia also asked the global leaders and people living across the world to ensure their commitment to the Gandhian way of living.
She went on to say that this day must not become just like another annual celebration, and that we must try to imbibe the Gandhian ethos in our life.
