Colombo, Nov 28 : At least 16 people were killed and 20 others injured in a bomb explosion in Colombo on Wednesday evening.
The blast took place in the city's busy Nugegoda district, the BBC reported.
It came just hours after a female suicide bomber killed one person and injured two others outside the offices of Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda, who escaped unhurt in the capital.
The attacks assume significance as it come a day after Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran said that hopes for peace were naive, after increased fighting in the north.
