It has not yet been decided how General Pervez Musharraf will quit the Pakistan Army as his notification had not been issued by the Defence Ministry till late on Tuesday.
Islamabad, Nov 28 : It has not yet been decided how General Pervez Musharraf will quit the Pakistan Army as his notification had not been issued by the Defence Ministry till late on Tuesday.
Defence Secretary Kamran Rasool said that the General Headquarters Military Secretary branch would determine the nature of the notification and it could be either 'retirement, relinquishment, struck off duty or any other form'.
"The form would be determined by the GHQ and the Defence Ministry would issue the notification accordingly. The GHQ would like to use the words of its choice. The order will be issued on the bases of the summary of the GHQ," Rasool added.
The notification pertaining to the outgoing and new Army Chief would be issued simultaneously, he said.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum has said that the oath of the President would be administered/conducted under the 1973 Constitution.
He said that the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) would be lifted "very soon", and added that it is for sure the elections will be held under the 1973 Constitution and not the PCO.
Qayyum clarified that the articles of the constitution related to the oath of the President are operational and alive and the oath will be administered under 1973 Constitution.
He said when the presidential election was held the Constitution was fully operative and Musharraf was re-elected for another term as a constitutional President.
When asked if he could suggest a time frame for the lifting of emergency rule and revocation of the PCO, Qayyum said Musharraf had empowered himself, through an amendment, to revoke the PCO.
The Daily Times quoted him as saying that the government had been considering lifting the emergency rule, but the recent terrorist acts had delayed the decision.
