Jeddah, Nov 21 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today said that talks would be held with the Benazir Butto led Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to chalk out and adopt a single Charter of Democracy.
"The decision as to whether we should contest the General Elections or not will be made after reaching an agreement on the said Charter of Democracy," The New quoted Sharif, as saying.
The Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief was expressing his views on Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed's suggestion to boycott the upcoming general elections completely.
He asked how could one hope for free and fair elections in a country where judiciary is held hostage, emergency rule imposed and new Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) promulgated.
Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) has denounced the proclamation of emergency in Pakistan.
The members of EU unanimously denounced the imposition of emergency in Pakistan and demanded to lift the same, Geo News reported.
The EU members also underlined the need to ensure holding of general elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.
