London, Nov 18 : British actor Hugh Grant has become the patron saint of 'Gravers', a new breed of 40- and 50-somethings who have turned the mid-life crisis into an addiction to acting 20 years younger than their age.
Mounting fascinations with youth, changing family roles, are all contributing factors to the Gravers phenomenon, in which the people are found to be old enough to be the parents of adolescents, and quite possibly are.
Peter York, an author on social trends, has seen an increase in Gravers who are re-living their lost youth.
"During the 1980s, you had the yuppies in the City chained to their desks and making their millions which they couldn't spend because they were working," the Telegraph quoted York, as saying.
"Now they have the opportunity to spend it so there are more 40, 50 and 60-year-olds living like 20-year-olds, indulging in groovy loucheness.
"A growing number of parents now have relationships with their children that is more like that of a brother or sister, so they are increasingly influenced by their children's tastes in fashion and music.
"But Gravers should beware - too much imitating their children can lead to a slippery slope of hedonism and down that road lies the oldest and saddest swinger in town," he added.
According to Society magazine, 'gravers' listen to the latest bands and top the guest list at London nightclubs, leave their children at home with the nanny, or choose not to have children.
