2-year old becomes youngest person to swim 50 meters unaided

Leah Robbins, a two-year-old has achieved the rare feat of being the youngest person to swim 50 meters unaided, an act usually accomplished by 6-year-olds.

London, May 4 : Leah Robbins, a two-year-old has achieved the rare feat of being the youngest person to swim 50 meters unaided, an act usually accomplished by 6-year-olds.

Norfolk-based Leah, who learnt to swim with the help of a float, when she was 4 months old, achieved the 50-meter mark at Kingfisher Holiday Park pool in Burgh Castle near Great Yarmouth

She picked up doggy paddle and floating, when she turned two.

In this January, when she was 30 months old the young swimmer passed her Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) certificate for swimming five metres.

In a couple of months, Leah got the certificates for the 10 meter and 25-meter.

She is the youngest person to get the certificates for all the four distances.

A spokesperson for ASA said that she is not aware of any younger person securing the certificate for 50-meter mark.

Leah's mother, Kay Masters, who expects the Guinness Book of Records to notice her daughter's achievement, said that being too small for breaststroke, Leah could cross all the four marks by backstroke.

She added that she is really proud of her daughter.

"She had to do backstroke because she is just too small to do front crawl or breaststroke. But she is just about able to get her arms out of the water and easily did the four lengths of the pool. I was really proud of her," the Telegraph quoted Kay, as saying.
