Doctor Who likely to be axed in 2008

Britains hit television science fiction Doctor Who is likely to be axed next year, after the completion of its fourth series.

London, May 31 : Britain's hit television science fiction 'Doctor Who' is likely to be axed next year, after the completion of its fourth series.

Producer Russell T. Davies has taken the decision to finish off the BBC1 sci-fi drama, as he now wants to turn his focus on other projects. According to reports, Davies and other senior staff working on the series have decided to put in their papers in summer 2008.

"The heavy workload - nine months of 16-hour days every year - has started to take its toll," the Sun quoted a source as saying.

"It was decided the best thing for the show was go out at the top next year," the source added.

'Doctor Who' was re-launched in 2005, 16 years after it was originally axed, and around eight million people watch the programme.

Davies, the mind behind the return of the programme, portrays the Time Lord in the series.
