Lahore, May 27 : Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf is losing his grip over the government in the wake of the over two-month-old judicial crisis, feels General (retired) Talat Masood.
Participating in Geo Television's 'Meray Mutabiq' programme on Sunday, General Masood was quoted by the Daily Times as saying that Musharraf and his ally, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), had become isolated at the national level after the May 12 violence in Karachi.
He warned that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Quami) would lose its cohesiveness after the upcoming elections.
Senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami opined that there was still a possibility of an agreement being worked out betweem Musharraf and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto before the next elections, given the lack of support from his present allies. He said the recent verbal clashes between Imran Khan and the MQM could benefit Khan, as all MQM opponents would now support him nationally and internationally.
