Karachi, May 26 : Taking suo moto notice of the May 12 violence in Karachi, Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Sabihuddin Ahmed, on Saturday constituted a larger bench of seven judges to hear the case.
The High Court has summoned the Chief Secretary of Sindh, Sindh's Secretary for Home Affairs, IG Sindh Police, Director General Rangers Sindh, and Town Police Officer Saddar Karachi on May 28 to give their version on the incident.
The Sindh High Court bench headed by Justice Sarmad Jalal Esani comprises of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Azizullah Memon, Justice Khilji Arif Hussian, Justice Maqbool Bakir and Justice Sain Dino Metlo.
The weekend violence in Karachi left 48 people dead and over 150 others injured.
Earlier this week, Musharraf said that the May 12 Karachi violence was a "conspiracy" to create further chaos over the prevailing judicial crisis in the country following the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
A day after, Musharraf ruled out ordering any inquiry into the incident.
According to The Nation, when Musharraf's attention was brought to demands for an independent inquiry by several quarters at a high-level meeting of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, he said, "forget an inquiry" into the carnage.
He further said that no one would be allowed to give an ethnic colour to the killings.
