Islamabad, May 14 : Maulana Abdul Aziz, the chief cleric of the Lal Masjid, has said that the power shortage in Pakistan will end if the ruling class, the military and the police stop ironing their clothes.

Aziz was quoted by the Daily Times as saying that the enforcement of Sharia was the only solution to all problems facing the country.

He said that on the one hand people were committing suicide due to poverty, while on the other the ruling class was spending the public's hard-earned money on rallies.

He said the situation in the country was worsening day by day. Pakistan should consider the implications of the weekend killings in Karachi.

In Peshawar, National Assembly Opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the incidents in Karachi were no accident, but properly pre-planned.

Addressing a public gathering here, he said the MQM rally was meant for a clash between the political workers on the occasion of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry's arrival in Karachi on Saturday.

Rehman was quoted by The News as saying that those killing innocents, could never be well wishers of the nation.
