Islamabad, May 14 : Ruling out imposition of emergency in the country in the wake of political violence in the country, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz today said that those responsible for the killings and lawlessness in Karachi will be taken to task.

Talking to reporters at Chakwala after inaugurating a cement plant, Aziz said the provincial government in Sindh has been working in close coordination with the federal government to restore normalcy in the port city of Karachi.

The situation in Karachi continues to be tense and the violence between the supporters of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry that began late on Friday night has already left over 40 people dead and more than 150 injured.

On Sunday, fresh violence surfaced in Karachi, leaving three more persons killed and several others injured.
