India, Pakistan joint peace convention delayed

The Pakistan-India Peace and Democracy Forum has announced the delay of a joint convention, which was going to be held on May 18.

Lahore, May 12 : The Pakistan-India Peace and Democracy Forum has announced the delay of a joint convention, which was going to be held on May 18.

The Daily Times quoted Afrasiab Khattak, the chairman of the forum, as saying that the Pakistani government had refused to issue visas to the Indian delegates.

"We regret that Islamabad has ruled against the initiative to promote peace and friendship with India by refusing visas. It has overlooked that this action is against the best interest of Pakistanis," Khattak was quoted, as saying.

Even though we reserve the right to do everything legally to bring people of India and Pakistan together, but at the moment we have no option but to postpone the joint convention," he added.

"Due apologies to the Indian and Pakistani delegates who had been working for the convention for months, especially the Indians who struggled to meet the new and harsh conditions for visa applications," he concluded.
