Prostitutes in the German capital of Berlin have unusual visitors, as tax officials make trips to brothels to collect revenue from their earnings.
London, May 10 : Prostitutes in the German capital of Berlin have unusual visitors, as tax officials make trips to brothels to collect revenue from their earnings.
According to data from the German Institute for Economic Research, prostitution in Berlin has an annual income of 300 million euros (203 million pounds).
The data showed that the sex industry is more dynamic than domestic builders, painters and decorators.
"Prostitution is a strong economic sector in the capital," Timesonline quoted Gerry Woop, spokesman for Berlin's economic administration, as saying.
In the current week, tax inspector collected revenue from over 7,000 sex workers.
Prostitution was legalised in 2002 making prostitutes entitled pensions and health insurance.
However, a negligible number of prostitutes have been filing their tax returns.
Each prostitute is required to deposit 30 euros per day with the brothel owner, as an advance payment on tax, according to new law.
The prostitute also should document her proof for each working day
The prostitutes association, HyDra, said that the sum is unreasonably high and should be halved.
