Melbourne, May 10 : Women drivers are not the only ones who use their rear-view mirrors to straighten their appearance while driving, for men do it just as often.
A survey of 934 drivers throughout Australia by Woolcott Research for NRMA Insurance has found that male drivers happen to be just as image-conscious as women, with one out of four checking out themselves when behind the wheel.
In comparison, only one in three women tends to do the same.
The survey also found that drivers in the age group of 25 to 34 were the worst offenders, with more than 40 per cent making sure they looked good all the time.
The poll also showed that this age group is even more concerned with their appearance than 16 to 24 year olds, who came second with 34 per cent, reports News.com.au.
It was also found that 5 per cent of drivers under 30, and 3 per cent of drivers over 30 had crashed or had a near-miss thanks to checking out their appearance or applying makeup instead of keeping their eye on the road.NRMA Insurance Queensland State Manager Brett Robinson revealed that Woolcott Research had also found that the thing that kept drivers occupied the most while on the road was applying lipstick, brushing their hair, checking their teeth and even using electric shavers.
People in the city were also noted to be more conscious of their appearance with 30 percent admitting that they had tried to straighten their appearance, as compared to 22 percent of drivers living in the countryside.
