London, May 1 : British Chief of the General Staff, Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt last evening confirmed that Prince Harry will be posted in Iraq within days, despite the killing of sixth British soldier by a Shia sniper gang on Sunday.
But, the Army Chief declined to give details on what Harry's actual role in Iraq would be.
"The decision has been taken he will deploy. I will, of course, keep that decision continually under review. If circumstances are such that I change that decision, I will make a further statement," The Sun quoted the Army Chief as saying.
The killing of Rifleman Paul Donnachie (18) is bound to increase fears over the safety of 22-year-old Harry.
Paul, who served with the 2nd Battalion, the Rifles, passed out of training four months ago and was sent straight to the frontline. He is the sharpshooters' second victim in a week.
The squaddie, from Reading, Berks, was just days away from coming home. Also killed by snipers in the last nine weeks have been Kingsman Alan Jones, 20, Rifleman Daniel Coffey and Private Jonathon Wysoczan, both 21, Rifleman Aaron Lincoln, 18, and Kingsman Danny Wilson, 28.
The Sun revealed in March how a crack squad of snipers were a new menace for troops in Basra.
Almost 20 more soldiers have been wounded. Twelve Brits in total have died in Iraq during April.
