Islamabad, May 1 : A blaze that erupted at the Islamabad plaza on Tuesday has been brought under control and a commando operation is underway to rescue trapped people from the building.
The fire erupted at a commercial plaza in Blue Area of Islamabad and later spread to an adjacent building of a private bank. According to sources, a furniture showroom caught fire due to electric short-circuit in the morning that later engulfed a nearby bank building.
Thick smoke emanating from the blaze created severe problems for patients admitted at a nearby hospital. They were eventually evacuated from the building. Some, however, climbed to the hospital's rooftop.
