Peshawar, June 26 : The Pakistan Government is planning to deploy unmanned reconnaissance planes and increasing the number of troops to stem the tide of Talibanisation in NWFP and the tribal regions.
The National Security Council (NSC) had taken a number of political and administrative decisions in order to check the growing Talibanisation of the NWFP and FATA, said sources.
The NSC decided to launch an operation against militants on a fast-track basis, and undertake 'focused operations against militant commanders' the Dawn quoted sources, as saying.
The Ministry of Interior had prepared a list of militant commanders operating in the tribal region and the settled districts of the NWFP, the paper said.
The military has also decided to take action against madrassas preaching militancy and the Ministry of Interior has prepared a list of such seminaries for keeping the watch on them, it added.
According to sources, the most significant and crucial decision was, however, the appointment of regional co-ordinators (RCOs) for southern, central and northern districts of the province - something similar to the defunct offices of commissioners - to liase and co-ordinate between the settled districts and the adjoining tribal regions.
On law-enforcement, the NSC decided to let the NWFP Government make fresh recruitment in police force to make up for the shortfall, the source added.
It was decided that the Prime Minister and NWFP Chief Minister would decide the finance-sharing formula for the fresh recruitment, he added.
