Pakistan NA Speaker forwards reference against Shaukat Aziz to Secretariat

The Speaker of Pakistans National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, has forwarded the disqualification reference filed against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz by the Opposition members, to the NA Secretariat.

Islamabad, June 21 : The Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, has forwarded the disqualification reference filed against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz by the Opposition members, to the NA Secretariat.

The Opposition members have demanded that Chaudhry Hussain send the reference to the Election Commission within 30 days.

The reference, signed by 31 Opposition members, stated that the PM was not eligible for Assembly membership under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

According to a charge framed in the reference, Aziz had caused a stock market crisis through his front man Arif Habib and earned the money through illegal means.

The members also mentioned the privatization of steel mills in the reference and said that the verdict of the Supreme Court in this connection was sufficient for his disqualification.

Addressing a news conference in Parliament cafeteria after filing the reference, Opposition members Liaquat Baloch, Khurshid Shah and Khwaja Asif said that Chaudhry Hussain was bound to forward the reference to the Election Commission within 30 days.

According to The News, they have demanded that Chaudhry Hussain send the reference against Shaukat Aziz with the same swiftness with which he sent the reference against Imran Khan to the Election Commission.
