Pak intelligence agencies to investigate madarassa-terror link

The Pakistan Government has asked its intelligence agencies to investigate into the alleged madarassas links with terrorist groups in the country.

Islamabad, July 20 : The Pakistan Government has asked its intelligence agencies to investigate into the alleged madarassas' links with terrorist groups in the country.

The agencies would need at least four to six months of time to submit their report, as they would examine over 17, 000 madarassas across the country, the Daily Times quoted a source as saying.

The decision came in the wake of a recent wave of extremism sweeping across Pakistan.

The source further said that President General Pervez Musharraf took the decision at the June 4 National Security Council meeting.

The Interior Ministry had a list of 20 madrassas with their alleged involvement in militant activities, but it was decided to cross check the information gathered by the intelligence agencies and the Provincial Home Departments, the source added.
