Karachi, July 20 : Pakistan's largest bank, Habib Bank Limited, has denied having any links with the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl, by terrorists in February 2002.
Pearl's widow Mariane, has in a lawsuit alleged that the bank knowingly conducted financial services on behalf of charities linked to extremist groups.
The suit named the al-Rashid Trust as a defendant among many other charities.
Zaffar Aziz Osmani, a senior executive of bank, however, said the bank had not been informed about the lawsuit and it was not involved in any acts of terrorism.
The Dawn quoted him as saying that the bank only came to know about the lawsuit through the media reports.
At the time of his kidnapping Pearl had been investigating the case of Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, and alleged links between al Qaeda and Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
