Karachi, July 2 : Torrential rains, coupled with inadequate arrangements for draining out water accumulating in the lanes and small rooms of Mohenjodaro, have damaged a portion of the five-thousand-year-old Indus valley town.
On Sunday, water stood on the main platform of the Stupa and the main street of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
The stagnating water can cause some degree of damage to the structure and could lead to salinity and water-logging, say archaeologists.
According to the Dawn, the incessant rainfall forced HESCO, the electricity supply corporation to shut down power-supply, putting municipal authorities at a loss, as they could not put the pumping machines to work to drain out the water.
