Over 650 people arrested under anti-terrorism legislation in the UK since the 9/11 attack have been released without charge.
Edinburgh, July 19 : Over 650 people arrested under anti-terrorism legislation in the UK since the 9/11 attack have been released without charge.
According to Home Office figures, 1,228 people were arrested under anti-terrorism law from September 11, 2001 to the end of March this year. Out of this, 669 were later released without charge.
On the other hand, 224 have been convicted of terrorism-related crimes and a further 114 figure in the list of either awaiting or standing trial.
The revelation follows the release of three people arrested in connection with the failed car bomb attacks on Glasgow and London earlier this month, the Scotsman reported.
Criticising the move to extend the maximum period of police detention of terror suspects without charge, critics said the figures showed extending it beyond the current 28-day limit was unnecessary.
