Islamabad residents feel insecure after Supreme Court blast

Residents in Islamabad are feeling insecure after Tuesday nights blast outside the Supreme Court complex, which killed at least 17 people and injured 57.

Islamabad, July 19 : Residents in Islamabad are feeling insecure after Tuesday night's blast outside the Supreme Court complex, which killed at least 17 people and injured 57.

Some residents had the courage to visit markets, but a majority of them remained glued to their television sets, praying for peace to return, the Daily Times reported.

The people termed the live pictures shown on television, as disgraceful.

"I fail to understand the logic behind showing such gory images," said a resident Nadeem Qureshi.

The sound and intensity of the Tuesday's explosion was such that it was heard in several areas as far away as Rawal Dam and Chak Shahzad.

"I initially thought it was one of the devices used during the military operation against the Lal Masjid that had gone off," said Professor Iftikhar Qureshi.

A wave of fear gripped Islamabad after the blast, as some of the busy markets and roads wore a deserted look.

Most residents believe that no matter how strict the security, preventing suicide attacks is a difficult task. They pointed out that the latest blasts had occurred despite tight security.

"Identifying a person bent upon killing himself and others is quite difficult," said brick kiln owner, Masood Ahmed Warraich.

Residents called for enhanced security in wake of the recent suicide attack, and also demanded that the intelligence network be improved.
