Islamabad, July 19 : India's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Satyabrata Pal, has assured the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry that businessmen recommended by them would be provided visas within 24 hours.
Interacting with traders at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Pal said that medical visas would also be issued immediately to Pakistanis seeking treatment in any Indian hospital.
The Dawn quoted the envoy as saying, that over 60 per cent of the Indian and Pakistani population was linked to agriculture, and therefore, there was a lot of potential for enhancement in this field.
"Nowadays, India is facing a shortfall of wheat, and we need five million tons of wheat," he added.
Pointing out that last year 100,000 Indian tourists visited Pakistan, Pal said the two countries could also enhance foreign exchange potential in tourism sector.
According to Pal, both countries could overcome their respective energy crises by procuring civil nuclear energy from developed countries.
He invited Pakistani investors to invest in India, saying a large number of foreign firms were already investing in India.
Pal said that both being rural economies, improved relations between New Delhi and Islamabad would make life easier for the common people.
