Pak investigation agency suffering from staff shortage

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan is not able to check the circulation of fake currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations due to shortage of staff, sources have said.

Lahore, July 18 : The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan is not able to check the circulation of fake currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations due to shortage of staff, sources have said.

Sources in the FIA disclosed that there was a severe shortage of manpower in the Crime Circle of the agency due to which action could not be taken against the people involved in the fake currency racket.

The FIA Crime Circle had information about some people involved in the business of fake currency but action could not be taken against them due to the unavailability of staff, The Nation quoted a source as saying.

A Deputy Director, three Assistant Directors and a Sub-Inspector are running the Crime Circle only, the source said.

Meanwhile, a senior FIA official claimed that Pakistan tribals were involved in preparing fake currency in their areas, supplying it to the racketeers at cheaper rates.

The official also charged Indian intelligence agency RAW for pumping in fake currency notes in the country.

"Several people daily face the problem of fake currency, but they never even bother to report to the local police because the way of registration of case and dealing of police was very complicated," The Nation quoted the official as saying.

The sources disclosed that shopkeeper and stakeholders were extra conscious regarding receiving of currency notes, and they have installed machines, which help them to judge the accuracy of the currency notes.
