Musharraf rules out imposing emergency

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today ruled out the possibility of imposing the state of emergency in the country, saying his nation and the people were his priority.

Islamabad, July 18 : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today ruled out the possibility of imposing the state of emergency in the country, saying his nation and the people were his priority.

He also reiterated that the general elections would be held on time, adding that prior to elections, caretaker government would be set up.

Musharraf said he would seek re-election by the parliament according to the constitution.

Musharraf was quoted by The News as saying, that the extremists want confrontation with the moderates.

Referring to the law and order situation in NWFP, he said the National Security Council had approved the deployment of Army in the NWFP province.

He went on to say that the government is trying to meet the existing situation with full force.

Meanwhile, seventeen security men were killed and 13 others injured when miscreants attacked a convoy of security forces in Madakhel area of North Waziristan tribal region.

Seventeen miscreants were also killed in retaliatory action.
