Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has expressed fears of a hidden hand trying to create anarchy in Pakistan in order to facilitate the imposition of emergency.
Islamabad, July 18 : Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has expressed fears of a "hidden hand" trying to create anarchy in Pakistan in order to facilitate the imposition of emergency.
Condemning the suicide attack on the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) reception camp, Bhutto alleged that the Musharraf regime had failed to maintain law and order in the country.
"The government should resign and pave way for the holding of fair and free elections," the Dawn quoted her, as saying.
Bhutto said that her party was at great unease over the growing incidents of suicide bombings and acts of terrorism in Pakistan, and added that the PPP is being targeted.
She said that a civil war like situation was prevailing in the country, and by declaring emergency the crisis would not go away.
"If an emergency is declared in Pakistan, moderate and democratic forces would further be alienated," Bhutto told the PPP's parliamentary board meeting.
She also called for a strong democratic government to fight the menace of terrorism.
Speaking on the Lal Masjid issue, she said it seemed that the people involved, had some connection with the al-Qaeda.
