Benazir wants grand opposition alliance

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has proposed the formation of a grand Opposition alliance during her meeting with former premier Nawaz Sharif, sources have said.

Islamabad, Dec 5 : Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has proposed the formation of a grand Opposition alliance during her meeting with former premier Nawaz Sharif, sources have said.

Bhutto said whether they take part in the forthcoming elections or boycott this process, the grand alliance should be build on the basis of agenda comprising minimum points for waging a joint struggle, source said.

They said that Sharif agreed to the proposal of Bhutto to form a grand alliance.

Sharif was of the view that they should start work for preparing a joint agenda for this purpose.

Sources said Bhutto wanted to include the demand of independent judiciary in the list charter of demands but she, on the insistence of Sharif, dropped this and agreed to include the demand of restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary in it.

Sources further said that during his meeting with PTI chief Imran Khan at the residence of PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, Sharif asked him (Imran) to go along with him for a meeting with Bhutto, but he made an excuse to see her.

The approval of charter of demands would be sought from the APDM and the ARD, The Nation quoted source, as saying.
