London, Dec 26 : A new research has shown that the proportion of the junk e-mails reaching one's inbox is nearly 70 percent or two-thirds of total mails received.
In terms of numbers, it is 122 billion e-mails every day.
In 1983, half million e-mails were being sent worldwide on a daily basis, which has steadily risen to 183 billion e-mails today.
"We used to track thousands of spam e-mails and the increase in the last few years has been nothing short of phenomenal," the Daily Express quoted a spokeswoman of the AOL, an American global Internet services and media company operated by Time Warner.
According to the AOL spokeswoman, if the present trend in the increase of e-mail continues, the volume of the present mails transacted on a daily basis would touch 720 billion by 2011, and by 2019 it would go past the 35,000 billion mark.
