The Pakistan-India judicial committee on prisoners is all set to meet in India to discuss the issue of release of prisoners.
Islamabad, Dec 26 : The Pakistan-India judicial committee on prisoners is all set to meet in India to discuss the issue of release of prisoners.
Earlier this year, the two countries had agreed to establish a committee on prisoners comprising retired judges of Superior Judiciary to visit jails in the two countries to ensure that humane treatment was given to the prisoners and release of those who have completed their terms.
Over 500 Indian prisoners are languishing in Pakistani jails, while 450 Pakistanis are being held in Indian jails, The News quoted Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammed Sadiq, as saying.
Indian External Affairs Minister has said that there were 74 Indian Prisoner of Wars (PoW) in Pakistan jails, including 54 since 1971-72. Pakistan, however, does not acknowledge the presence of any PoW in its jails.
