Henri Paul, the man who drove Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed on the night they died in a Paris car crash ten years ago, drove like a maniac, the inquest into their deaths has heard.
London, Dec 19 : Henri Paul, the man who drove Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed on the night they died in a Paris car crash ten years ago, drove like a 'maniac', the inquest into their deaths has heard.
Myriah Daniels, a holistic healer and masseuse who was on the staff of Fayed's yacht Jonikal, said she rode in a Range Rover driven by Henri Paul when the couple returned to Paris in late August 1997.
Daniels, who rode with Paul in a convoy while Diana and Fayed were driven by their regular chauffeur from the airport to central Paris, told the London hearing that Paul was driving like a "maniac."
"Henri Paul almost killed us, he was driving way too fast," The Sun quoted her, as saying.
British and French police hold Paul responsible for the fatal crash on Aug. 31, 1997, in which he died, along with Diana and Fayed. They found evidence that his blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit and that he was speeding.
"I should be dead. I was positive we were going to get killed on that drive. He was driving like a maniac through the traffic," she said.
"He cut from the left lane all the way across the freeway to the off ramp. The Range Rover almost tipped over and I was sure we were all going to die. He is probably a nice man, but he was s*** for a driver."
"I still don't understand what we were trying to outrun. I did not see any motorcycles," she added.
However, a barrister for Paul's relatives accused Myriah of "elaboration and exaggeration" and a statement by Mr Wingfield, who was in the front of the car, described Paul's driving as "appropriate".
Daniels also disputed assertions by Mohamed Al Fayed that his son and the princess had decided to marry and died that Diana was pregnant with Dodi's baby.
"Look, nobody will ever know if they would have hooked up," Daniels said.
"It was too soon. They had just met. They were having fun getting to know each other, and to this day I cannot believe at all that Dodi would have been premature in a situation like this to ask her to marry him. I do not believe that."
As for the alleged pregnancy, Daniels said: "She was not pregnant. Period."
Diana, Dodiand Henri Paul died when their Mercedes crashed in a Paris tunnel early on August 31, 1997.
