Oslo, Dec 10 : Chairman of the U N Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Rajendra Pachauri and former US Vice President Al Gore on Monday were awarded with the coveted Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts in making people aware of the disastrous consequences of Climate Change.
Both were awarded the gold medal, a diploma and a 10 million Swedish kronor (USD 1.6 million) cash award at a glittering ceremony that was organised at Oslo City Hall.
"We, the human species, are confronting a planetary emergency -- a threat to the survival of our civilisation that is gathering ominous and destructive potential even as we gather here," Gore said.
"It is time to make peace with the planet," he added.
The award ceremony coincided with the ongoing U N climate conference in Bali in Indonesia.
