Musharraf cannot stall Benazirs return

The opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has criticised President Pervez Musharraf for saying that Benazir Bhutto would not be allowed to come back to Pakistan until after the general election, and said Musharraf cannot stall her return.

Islamabad, Aug 9 : The opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has criticised President Pervez Musharraf for saying that Benazir Bhutto would not be allowed to come back to Pakistan until after the general election, and said Musharraf cannot stall her return.

"The chairperson of the largest political party in the country has left the country with the permission of courts, not an agreement with the executive, and does not need a green light from anyone to come back to Pakistan," said Sherry Rehman, Information Secretary of the PPP.

She said Bhutto would return to Pakistan before the elections as announced by her in London.

"The exact date and time of her return is a big event for the party and will be announced after due deliberation in the Central Executive Committee meeting in London," Rehman added.

Bhutto will arrive in Lahore from London and the international media will accompany her, the sources said.

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Pakistan People's party will meet on August 28 in London to finalise the programme of Bhutto's return to the country, the Daily Times reported.

The CEC will meet for three days and discuss the PPP's strategy for the coming general and presidential elections.
