The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Pakistan Government to withdraw red corner notices issued by Interpol in 2005 at its request against former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Karachi, Aug 8 : The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Pakistan Government to withdraw "red corner notices" issued by Interpol in 2005 at its request against former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
"During the hearing, the allegations against her turned out to be false, and the court has now quashed the Interpol warrants," Bhutto's lawyer, Farooq Naik, said.
Naik said he had petitioned the court to declare the government's arrest warrant unlawful, because a lower court had already thrown out the government's complaint, which the court allowed.
A court official also confirmed that Interpol notices were declared "null and void".
A senior Interior Ministry official said the government would notify Interpol of the cancellation of the red notices once it received the court's orders, the Daily Times reported.
The notices were sought after an anti-corruption court asked that they be issued to bring Bhutto back to face trial.
The Pakistan Government had moved the court against Bhutto in a case in which she was accused of concealing her assets and providing wrong information to the election authorities.
