Lahore, Aug 8 : Leader of the Opposition in Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that it was strange on the part of Pervez Musharraf to meet Benazir Bhutto in Abu Dhabi, when he had branded her as corrupt, and said she would not be allowed to return to Pakistan.
"The meeting has affected the position of Musharraf as well. It appears as if he was fooling the nation when he talked against the PPP Chairperson," Rehman said.
He said Bhutto had lost her political importance after contacts with the General, and added that both leaders have lost their credibility.
Rehman claimed Bhutto could be of no help to Musharraf even if the two sides reached some understanding.
Despite repeated assurances by Musharraf that the next elections would be held on time, Rehman said the situation is not 'very clear' and he is not sure when or whether the polls will be held.
He said Musharraf is facing a most difficult situation and is not able to find a way out.
A desperate Musharraf could also think of handing over power to another general,, Rehman warned.
He said President Musharraf's relations with the superior judiciary were strained, and he did not know whether any move to prematurely dissolve the assemblies, impose emergency or get himself re-elected in uniform would be endorsed by the Supreme Court.
Commenting on the All Parties Democratic Movement's role, he said the new coalition would honour its commitment to the nation made a month in London.
