Disgraced nuclear scientist and father of Pakistans nuclear bomb, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, has been again elected as President of the country in a Save Country Presidential Referendum.
Lahore, Aug 8 : Disgraced nuclear scientist and father of Pakistan's nuclear bomb, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, has been again elected as President of the country in a "Save Country Presidential Referendum".
In the referendum organised by the Save Judiciary Committee (SJC) at the Lahore High Court premises, Dr Khan overwhelmingly defeated President Pervez Musharraf.
Dr Qadeer got 2,498 votes while General Musharraf polled only two votes, according to the results of the second day of the referendum.
The voting for the referendum started at 9 a.m. and continued till 2 p.m. in which a number of lawyers and common people took part.
The results were announced by the convenor of the SJC, The News reported.
The lawyers and public present there celebrated the victory of Dr AQ Khan by performing a Bhangra and distributing sweets.
On the first day of the referendum Dr Khan bagged 1,994 votes against six secured by Musharraf here on Monday.
The lawyers who administered the referendum included former Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, former secretary LHCBA Azam Nazir Tarar, former president LHCBA Ahmad Awais, Secretary SCBA Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari and Secretary LHCBA Sarfraz Ahmad Cheema.
At the polling camp of the SJC, rich tributes were paid to veteran journalist Aziz Mazhar for his services to the profession of journalism.
The referendum would also be held on Wednesday.
