General Pervez Musharraf has said that he would seek re-election as the countrys next President in uniform before the forthcoming general elections.
Karachi, Aug 7 : General Pervez Musharraf has said that he would seek re-election as the country's next President in uniform before the forthcoming general elections.
General Musharraf said that it was a constitutional requirement that the presidential election be held one month before the end of his five-year term ending in November.
The election to elect Musharraf would be held between September 15 and October 15, sources said.
However, on the issue of wearing the general's uniform, he said that it could be sorted out later.
"The talks on the uniform issue could be held after the holding of the forthcoming general elections," The News quoted Musharraf, as saying during his address to the parliamentarians here.
State Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani told reporters that Musharraf had said that the Constitution did not bar him from contesting the presidential election for a second term.
"Musharraf said that the Supreme Court could also not restrain him from re-election as President, as the present Chief Justice had also signed the apex court's previous judgement in his favour," said Thatta Nazim Shafqat Shirazi.
PML leader Shahabuddin Hussaini said Musharraf had made it clear that the present assemblies would complete their tenure, and the general elections would be held according to schedule.
